Bunting and Flags.

My Tag for this weeks theme of Bunting and Flags has been collaged from a page in the Picture Post dated 13th June 1953 in celebration of the Queens Coronation.
Yep. I do keep things a really long time and they will all get used eventually!!!!!!

Bunting

I decided to go with the Summer Bunting theme, and here are my two tags.

BUNTING
Bonjour everyone!  Oh dear, I'm so out of my comfort zone with this one; red, white and blue aren't my thing!  However although I know I could have veered off, I have forced myself to have a go in the more traditional sense.  As I am English and live in France I thought I would design a flag which sort of reflected both countries.  The bunting is made from cut up old French postage stamps and I have thrown in some Olympic style sticker borders for good measure!!  Can't believe some of the entries so far - you lot are SO creative!!  A bientot.  Carolyn.

Off to the party

"Hurry up Charlie" said Lola "We are late for the party"

and a big thank you to my blog friend Mo Allan
who has just sent me this lovely crochet tag (big).
It will be going on my Inspiration Wall

Have a lovely week everyone.

Flags and Bunting

I wanted to avoid the Jubilee theme, saving that for next week, so here's my take on flags. I absolutely love all things 'Apollo', so I decided to use this picture of Buzz Aldrin with the American flag on the moon. I kept it really simple, cutting the picture in a circle shape and adding a quote that I found on the internet. It's from a scientist called Mark Robinson who was asked if the flags would last forever. "In human terms, it may seem like forever, but in geologic terms, probably there will be no traces of the Apollo exploration in, let's say, 10 to 100 million years." That's what I love of space - the size and time scales are almost beyond comprehension!

Bunting.

Hi everyone. It's a beautiful morning here in Wiltshire, but I'm watching the news and in fine British style it's about to change for the bank holiday. I'm still in holiday mood though from my too brief stay in Cornwall earlier this month and have the salty tang and seabird cry still in my blood stream, so for this week I have done another 'beach' tag!
Tag Tuesday. Bunting
I have just simply watercoloured a lovely stamp I recently found of beach huts and a boat. Then I added little pieces of streamer cut up for the bunting across the top. This is the second try as I placed all the little pieces on the tag yesterday and then had to go to work , but when I came in and went to glue them down I forgot and they all fluttered to the floor and I couldn't find them. Second attempt, then added a little piece of ribbon flag and the stamp Life's a Beach on the bottom with more decoupaged bunting.
All your tags are wonderful, I love all the different styles. I hope you all have a lovely week, I feel as if I know so many of you now!xx

Bunting.

OOOOPPPPPs, sorry slightly wonky photo!  Cant take another picture until I delete some photos from the memory card.
Anyway, this weeks theme meant I just had to do something patriotic, just loving seeing all the red, white and blue everywhere.  A mixed media tag which started off with craft vilene for the base.  Blue patchwork fabric was bonded to this, then the white diagonal stripes were cut from mulberry paper and the red ric-rac stuck on top.  White felt and red patchwork fabric for the cross of St. George. I then blanket stitched all the elements in place on my sewing machine.  The cown brad, ribbon and wire from my stash.  I am still managing to make all my tags with bits and pieces in my 'play room'.

I have now deleted some photos from my memory card, and taken another photo of my tag. It is hanging in my porch ready for next weeks celebrations.

BUNTING

Hi Friends!

I'm in a bit of a rush but wanted to get this posted...I made a tag based upon the July 4th parades in my husband's hometown. People decorate bikes, wagons, and golf carts to be in the parade. The people in the parade throw candy to the bystanders! It's a throwback to days gone by. I took a vintage image , hand colored it and changed it a bit. I added the flag and buntings to the wagon and the tag in honor of the parade. In the background I drew in fireworks and added a little glitter for that holiday sparkle. I hope you enjoy this!

Wishing you all a wonderfully creative week!
Best, Mary Ann

Regatta

I had so many ideas for this weeks theme but was so busy this week,
I only really turned my mind to my tag this morning, with not much time to spend on it.
In my little box of tags, cut from greetings cards I found the perfect background to set the scene.
paper bunting from the little off cuts of craft paper
and a couple of iris flowers which I made from a little miniature kit,
inspired by the lovely flowers I was given on Saturday for my birthday
The finished tag made me think of a sunny summer regatta.
Wow there are so many beautiful 'bunting' tags already appearing!

Bunting

Hi Everyone, Jane here, in the Royal County of Berkshire, where
it is still hot and sunny. (The reason it is royal is because Windsor Castle is in the county)

The theme of Bunting is certainly very topical. I went into Reading the other day, and there is bunting everywhere! A lot of it is handmade by a local group. It looks very festive and jolly!

It is amazing that the Queen has been on the throne for 60 years. She has worked very hard, and is still going strong, even at the age of 86.She has been  a great ambassador for her country. I hope you all enjoy the festivities .

For my tag, I just couldn't think of a bunting theme connected with the Queen and her Diamond Jubilee. I didn't have time to make some-too many other projects on the go, and I didn't want to get too sidetracked !

Then, by some strange coincidence I received this photo from my uncle . I thought it would be an interesting take on the bunting theme. It shows my Auntie Margaret, in the foreground  at St Bartholemew's Hospital in London  putting up bunting in preparation for  " Bartholomew Fair" which took place in July 1939.

The colours for "Barts" were black and white, but I have coloured in the pennants with Inktense pencils, then used a fine brush and watercolour over them. I also coloured in Auntie Margaret's hair and uniform ( although the uniform would have  really been grey, but I wanted it to stand out.) I placed it on this wonderful telephone box fabric, which is too nice to cut up and use for anything! I did try other methods, such as painting it digitally, but it didn't work out for me. I tried collaging paper and fabric, but it was on such a small scale, it was really fiddly. I decided against extra bunting/ribbon on the sides and let the photo speak for itself.
I hope you like it!

Fabulous tags last week, again! Thanks for the comments, it is always good to have feedback.

Bunting and Flags...
(Oh, I do LOVE a bit of Bunting!!)
-oOo-
Well I was supposed to be repurposing/painting an old shelf unit in the garden yesterday....but rain stopped play...( it was torrential here in my part of Essex!!)
-oOo-
So... inside I went, grabbed some fabric, lace, buttons, fabric clothing tag, crown charm, crochet flowers and a vintage baby image printed on to some fabric....
and hand-stitched up this little creation for this weeks Tag Tuesday theme...
I'm a little 'union jacked' out ....it's everywhere you look at the moment, with the forthcoming Jubilee celebrations....red, white and blue in every nook and cranny!!

So... I decided to change it up a little and went a little pink and aqua for my flag!
Thanks for peeking!

Bunting

Hi you all, Valerie here. I cannot say I am a fervent follower of the monarchy, but I do very much admire the Queen. She has been *In business* now for 60 years, and still going strong - hats off! I respect her enormous discipline and consciousness of her office, and how she carries out her duties, day for day. I am sure she has had a good life, too, with certainly more diversions, pomp and ceremony than most of us, but she has done her job well. And she has shown herself ready to learn and to listen to advice - I am thinking of her bowing at Princess Diana's funeral. And let's admit - she has had her share of troubles with her family, too!
Our theme this week is bunting, and my tags are meant as a little 'homage' to Queen Elizabeth II. As an oldie myself, I remember the parties in London at her coronation. I was lucky, I went to four - one on the street where we lived, one on the street where my Aunt lived, one at school, and one at a ladies' club, where I accompanied my great aunt. The parties were a great treat in those days. Growing up in post war London was dreary - grey streets, bomb sites which we used as playgrounds, buildings blackened and burnt. Rationing was part of daily life. Sweets and sugar were still rationed at this time, and so parties with jelly and custard and cakes were a real treat! Not to speak of a whole bar of Cadbury's chocolate each to take home. And other presents. At school and at one of the street parties we were given books; 'The Coronation Book of kings and Queens' and 'The Little Princesses'. At the other parties we were given commemorative mugs. The Mugs I gave to my sister when she immigrated to the USA in 1958, as she wanted them as a keepsake; the books I still have and use. And it was also the first time that I was able to watch TV - my Aunt had bought a TV set for the occasion, and we all squashed into her tiny front parlour to watch it all happening.
Okay, enough reminiscences for today, I am starting to feel like Methuselem! (Spell Check evidently never heard of Methusalem, and advised 'Methadone'!!!)

And here's a song we learnt at school:
Here's a health unto her Majesty,
With a fa la la la la la la
To drink this loyal toast of wine.
With a fa la la la la la la.
And he that will not drink her health,
I wish him neither wit nor wealth,
Nor yet a rope to hang himself.
With a fa la la la la la la la la la,
With a fa la la la la la la.

Sorry, my post is a bit long this week - next week will be shorter, promise!
Have a good week you all, and thanks for looking!

Bunting and Flags

Hi group!  Here is my effort for this week.  The main image is from a U.S. postage stamp booklet that I saved for just such an occasion.  The crossed flag stamp toward the bottom is an actual (old) stamp.  The buntings I made from scrapbook paper that I ran a wet tea bag over to imitate age. All modesty aside, I really liked the way this tag turned out so I hung it from picture frame in my house.  Unfortunately, I didn't notice it fell off, and my one-year-old hound got ahold of it!  She showed me some mercy and didn't totally destroy it, but I'm glad I got photo of it before!!! Until next week...

BUNTING

I have to admit I'm a little 'red, white and blued out' in the lead up to next weekend.   So I decided to keep the colours more neutral this week and I set myself the task of creating a summer bunting theme with grey, beige and black!

Thank you for all your kind comments last week - it was great seeing everyone's fab tags and I can't wait to see what's on offer this week.

Bunting and flags

Thank you to everyone for your amazing comments last week, I really enjoyed it all

I was determined to make this weeks tag REAlly simple, a background union jack and a few more flags stuck around, but once I'd got all my bits n bobs in front of me my mind took a different direction. My tag (& background), simply reflects a lot of what Summer means to me. The champagne is an "I wish" item :0)
Can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with

Have a great day! x
